"Let your tracks be lost in the dark and snow"
(Till the Morning Comes)

"Now is the time of returning
With thought jewels polished and gleaming

Now is the time past believing...
Now is the test of the boomerang
Tossed in the night of redeeming"
(The Eleven)

"No one may come here
since no one may stay"
(Rosemary)

"I've waved my flags into the sun
I've fought my wars, and now they're won
And I didn't need nobody's gun
I bent their mind."
(Mindbender)

"So forget about your yesterdays of sorrow
And forget about the darkness you have seen
For there's only you and me at the edge of an endless sea
And remember that the only time is now"
(The Only Time Is Now )

"When the secrets all are told
And the petals all unfold"
(Attics of My Life)

"With secret smiles like a Cheshire cat,
And leather wings like a vampire bat,
I fly away to my cold water flat
And eat my way tthrough a bowl of fat,
And I say to the man with the funny hat:

I can't come down 'til it's plain to see
I can't come down I've been set free.
Who you are and what you don't make no difference to me."
(Can't Come Down)

"Nothing's for certain
It could always go wrong...

We could have us a high time
Living the good life"

"Take your hands outta yo' pockets..."

"I can't help you with your troubles
If you won't help with mine"
(Cumberland-Blues)

"Good Mornin Mr. Benson
I see you're doin well
If I had me a shotgun
I'd blow you straight to Hell"
(Candyman)

"Hey hey, hey, come right away
Come and join the party every day.

Well everybody's dancin' in a ring around the sun
Nobody's finished, we ain't even begun..."

(The Golden Road To Unlimited Devotion)

"More than laurel
You may sow...

It's time to matter
The Earth will see you
on through this time"

(Mountains of the Moon)

"all the world revolves
captured in the eye of Odin
Allah
Pray where are you now?
All Mohammed's men
blinded by the sparkling water"

(What's Become of the Baby?)

One of my favorite lines is the one that is never sung:

"Seven-faced marble-eyed transitory dream doll"

I also love Picasso Moon (puts me in the minority, I know) but the lyrics to that song are just awesome:

"Hanging ten out on space and time, re-defining distance"
"I had a job trading bits for pieces, we'd make wrinkles, advertise them as creases"

And of course:

"Shall we go, you and I while we can,
through, the transitive nightfall of diamonds..."

"Clank your chains,
And count your change,
Try to walk the line"

I'm surprised no NY head has mentioned the line that always got the big cheer at the North East shows:
"Just like New York City..."

Ever since the birth of my daughter seven months ago, "Your daddy's here and he never will forget you. I will take you home...." The whole tune and espically this line never fail to give me a chill and a tear to my eye.
Another favorite:
"I only want to hold you,I don't want to tie you down. Or fence you in the lines I might of drawn. It's just that I,I,ve gotten used to having you around. My landscape would be empty, if you were gone......."

"Take up your china doll
It's only fractured
Just a little nervous from the fall"

"And all the children learning
From books that they were burning
Every leaf was turning...

And when the day had ended
With rainbow colours blended
His mind remained unbended..."

"The heat came round and busted me for smiling on a cloudy day"

[Well the heat down in jail, they weren't very smart
They taught me how to read and write, they taught me the precious art
Of breaking out of jail, well I learned that right away
Well they didn't need me to telling them 'bout smiling first then running away]

"You're both out in the streets and you got no place to go..."

"Walking along in the Mission
in the rain
come again"

"He had to die
You know he had to die..."

"I can't believe that she really wants you to die...

Wait a minute, watch what you're doing with your time
All the endless ruins of the past must stay behind..."

"Ten years ago I walked this street, my dreams were riding tall
Tonight I would be thankful Lord, for any dreams at all
Some folks would be happy just to have one dream come true
But everything you gather is just more that you can lose"

"Your constant battles are getting to be a bore
So go somewhere else and continue your cream puff war"

Sometime the lights all shining on me
Sometimes I can barely see...
lately it occurs to me
what a long strange trip it's been

[blindman stood on the way and cried,
show me the way,
the way to go home
